Best image quality available in a compact monocular
I tried about a dozen different monoculars and this one easily had the best image quality of all of them. It was also the most expensive, so I guess you get what you pay for. It is also fairly compact, only a couple of models were smaller. Focusing action was smooth. The monocular seems fairly sturdy, however the hard plastic rims on each end seem like they would be a problem if the unit was dropped. The other negative is the case, while it is nice, it does not have a belt loop.
If $200 is too much for your budget, try the Nikon 6x15 Monocular II or the Vanguard Dm-8250 Monocular. Both are less expensive. The Nikon is lighter and more compact, the Vanguard has a little better image and is very reasonably priced but is kind of big. However, both are a step down in image quality from this model.

Excellent for the size.
The view from this product is excellent as is the quality. The optics are second to none. I was recently travelling and every person I was with had to wait for their binoculars/monoculars to dry out from the humidity before using. I did not - the seals held very well. My only issue with this item, and it may be a function on the fact that it is a monocular, was that it was not usable from anything but a steady platform. If I was on a moving vehicle, boat, etc. it was impossible to center an image. 2006-03-03
